General Motors Corporation
(NYSE:GM)
GMC History :
GMC is a brand name used on trucks, vans, and SUVs marketed in North America and the Middle East by General Motors Corporations. GMC was formerly known as GMC Truck beginning in 1909 when General Motors purchased the "Rapid Motor Vehicle Company". The latter company was established by Max Grabowski in 1901 as one of the first commercial trucks ever designed in the United States. Traditionally, GMC and Chevrolet trucks are almost identical yet their differences have varied through the years including different trim from the Chevrolet (ie: grill, emblems, etc.), larger engine options, and a generally higher price. In the year 2007, GMC was General Motors' second largest selling light vehicle division after the Chevrolet brand and well ahead of the Pontiac brand.
